The boys were off diving so I took the opportunity to show off our new old house to friends Bev & Jill, we were also going to have a wander around the Haria craft market which is held each Saturday morning. I wanted to have a key for the house so first we stopped at the local ferreteria to pick up a padlock before heading to the property. The girls were given the full tour including the overgrown bits, and they both think that we’re very brave! It is a huge undertaking to renovate a property of this size and it may end up being called the money pit, we’ll have to see.
I noticed during my tour that two items were missing from the house that we had wanted which was a chandelier and a stone water filter, we had made the mistake of not telling the previous owners that we wanted them and now they were missing. The water filter had been built into a wall in the new kitchen area which was going to be the lounge after renovation – these stone filters are made of sandstone and very heavy, this had been smashed out of the wall leaving a gaping hole!
Before we went I wanted to claim the ruin as ours by fitting the padlock on to the main front door of the house but unfortunately there wasn’t a clasp fitting to lock so it would have to be done at a later date.
The market at Haria is lovely, it is local people with crafts and produce, there are only around 20 – 30 stalls but they range from jewellery, paintings, bread and cakes, fresh vegetables, local wine and craft items. We had a stroll and found a few new stalls to look at then headed for a coffee in the local bakery. The bakery is full of local life, it is very amusing to watch and the bread and cakes are very good.
